When Your Anxiety Makes You Feel Bare Naked

When Your Anxiety Makes You Feel Bare Naked

“Do you ever have that dream, Where you’re walking naked down the street, And everyone just stares”

We’ve all had a dream like this in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s song. We’ve even had those moments where we feel bare naked in a situation that makes us feel super uncomfortable.

I’ve felt like this many times in my life. I know it’s the anxiety that makes me feel like this and I hate it. I lay in bed many nights just randomly thinking of those stupid embarrassing moments.

The thing is, many of those moments are usually blown out of proportion in my head. The people who were there most likely don’t even think another thought of it. I’m usually very quiet in public, especially crowded places. If somehow I feel comfortable enough to talk a bit more, I tend to overthink those moments later and wonder how stupid I sounded or looked.

Anxiety sucks – BIG time. I try not to think about it and start thinking about fun or happy times. But, somehow, my brain ALWAYS loops back to something that heightens my anxiety. This is the main reason why I am on my phone or Kindle while in bed until I fall asleep. (BTW – If you do the same thing, I recommend an app that reduces blue light on your mobile devices, like the Kindle has, to help your brain fall asleep instead of staying awake.)

Sometimes we have to put ourselves out there bare naked. We have to do what needs to be done to get what we want. Remember to treat yourself too.  You could even do something like order from same day delivery birthday gifts if you want to be kind to yourself. I just wish it wasn’t so hard for me.

  • While I don’t suffer from anxiety myself, I have several close friends and family members who do. It can be very debilitating!

  • Anxiety is rough! I struggle with it and it likes to rear its ugly head every so often and wreck havoc upon my life. It’s worse in social settings that are new to me but slowly I recover, without medication. Glad more are talking about anxiety!

    • I’m so glad to hear that you are slowly recovering! Anxiety really should be talked about more since so many people deal with in different ways.

  • I don’t have anxiety, but I’m sure it is really tough to work through. Good to have some tools and support to help get through it. That song is definitely relatable!

A great point of view. My friend deals with anxiety on a daily bases. I know it’s hard for her.
