Life can get super busy at times. With me not driving, it makes it hard on the hubs to have to do the grocery shopping. I could go with him, but most of the time he likes to just swing by the store on the way home or even before anyone wakes up on the weekends. We don’t normally have a shopping list because he is a pro at shopping and picks up whatever is on sale or is in the mood for. Doesn’t bother me since I just cook whatever it is he brings home & we aren’t really picky when it comes to our food.
Lately, almost anything can be bought & shipped to you online – even groceries. This has made things a ton simpler for us because I can just order some stuff that we need and have it at the door within a few days or so.
There are even subscription box services for all sorts of things – clothing, fandoms, beauty, and even food. One of the latest subscription box services that we tried out was the ButcherBox, a monthly delivery service for All Natural 100% Grass Fed Beef, Organic Chicken and Heritage Breed Pork.
ButcherBox was founded on 3 principals:
- Make 100% grass fed beef accessible to everyone throughout the United States
- Provide a convenient experience in a fast paced, modern world
- Align Americans back with Nature
After doing some research, the founder of ButcherBox, Mike Salguero, discovered that not everyone has access to Grass Fed beef, and even if people have access, many don’t have the freezer space to store the hundreds of pounds that come with many grass fed purchases. These factors help to explain why less than 1% of the total beef consumed in the United States is 100% grass fed. Mike dreamed of a world where All Natural 100% Grass Fed beef could be available to anyone who was looking for it.
ButcherBox – 100% Grass Fed And Organic Meats Delivered To You Monthly
With a ButcherBox subscription, you can choose from 4 different boxes each month:
- All Beef Box – 100% Grass Fed & Grass Finished Beef
- Mixed Box – 100% Grass Fed/Grass Finished Beef, Organic Chicken & Heritage Breed Pork
- Beef & Chicken Box – 100% Grass Fed/Grass Finished Beef and Organic Chicken
- Beef & Pork Box – 100% Grass Fed/Grass Finished Beef and Heritage Breed Pork
Each box comes with at least 20 individual meals (at a 5 – 8 oz portion size). You don’t really know what will be included in your box until it arrives. You do have the ability to choose add-ons when ordering your box if you need a little extra or want something in particular. Have a large family? Double up your order to receive twice the meat at less than twice the cost.
Meals for a Month
For our first box, we chose the Mixed Box so we could get an assortment of their beef, chicken, & pork. It contained 2 lbs of ground beef, beef sirloin tips, 2 thin sliced steak, 4 bone in pork chops, 4 boneless/skinless chicken breasts, and 1 lb of bacon. Also included in a box is a thermal tote bag and recipe cards. (We did not receive the cards in our box for some reason.) Everything came nicely packed in a Styrofoam cooler with dry ice. Each portion is vacuum sealed. The meat can be kept in cooler for up to 24 hours at your doorstep in case you aren’t home to receive it.
We have had 100% grass fed beef before, so it wasn’t a totally new experience. My father-in-law had cows years ago and made sure the family was taken care of when it came to all sorts of cuts of beef for our freezer. It does have a very distinctive flavor compared to store bought and, to me, seems much healthier.
The first item we tasted was the bacon. Honestly, I would buy this bacon to replace all other bacon. It tasted delicious and didn’t have that overly salty taste that bacon normally has. Don’t get me wrong, I looove bacon, but sometimes it can be so salty. The bacon in our ButcherBox made it a little too easy to eat more of it than I normally do!
The thin sliced beef tricked me. I literally thought they were 2 cuts of thinly sliced steak. It wasn’t until I started cooking it that I realized very quickly that it was more like cut up beef – basically Steak Umm. Ha! No worries….I just cooked it up, added a bit of BBQ sauce and made sandwiches out of it. The kids loved it!
The chicken breasts were cooked in our NuWave Oven for my homemade chicken soup. Very tender and juicy.
Pork chops also went into my trusty NuWave Oven. I just sprinkled on some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. They all came out tender, which is not normal for me. I tend to overcook pork chops for some reason.
For my meatloaf, I used the 2 lbs of ground beef. I never make the same meatloaf and toss in whatever is on hand. This time I added crushed Cheez-Its, a packet of Sloppy Joe seasoning, and an egg. I even added a layer of sliced cheese in the middle of the meatloaf. Talk about yum…there was hardly any left & I finished it off for lunch the next day.
We haven’t used the beef sirloin tips yet but will look for a recipe for that one. Any suggestions?

Overall, having our meat delivered to us was great and we wouldn’t mind doing it again. Having the option to add more to our order and doubling it could end up saving us money in the long run while keeping our freezer stocked.
