Be Ready to Maintain

Accidental spills and cuts are bound to happen in your kitchen. Hence, it is important that you are always ready to take care of the spills or damage. The most basic way to be prepared is to have cleaning wipes ready. They will take care of excess water, oils or other liquids. Additionally, you can invest in sponges and cleaning solutions. No matter how sturdy the kitchen stone benchtop claims to be; it is best to stay away from harsh scrubbers. Most of the cleaning solutions are crafted as per the natural stone. You can buy one accordingly for occasional cleaning.

Regular Wiping of the Benchtop

It is not practical to spend a lot of time in cleaning your benchtops every day. Once you are done with your kitchen work and had put everything back in place, you should simply wipe off the kitchen stone benchtop. This will make sure that there is no water or any dirt builds up on the stone. You can dip it in lukewarm water to get off the greasiness on the countertop. If needed, you can spray some cleaning solution and wipe it neatly. Regular wiping the kitchen benchtop at the end of the day will maintain its cleanliness and look.

Intensive Cleaning

Many people are under an assumption that they have to clean the kitchen stone benchtop consistently to keep it spick and span. However, it is fair enough to take care of cleaning the countertop every fortnight. But, it also depends on how you use the kitchen. If you are heavy into cooking then you need to engage in weekly cleaning. There is no need to invest in expensive or luxurious cleaning solutions. You can make one at home. Use lukewarm water and add mild cleaning liquid to clean the tabletop. This solution will clean the kitchen germs, grease, and grime. Wipe it clean back with water to avoid soapy build up.

Waxing your Benchtop

Not many people are aware of the waxing technique. When you have natural stones like marble or granite for your kitchen benchtop stone, you should apply liquid stone wax. All that you need to do is to get a natural fiber cloth to rub the wax on the stone. You need to keep rubbing until you see no remains or residue of the wax on the bench top. It can be used for the edges and surface. This technique has to be performed every 3 to 6 months depending on how much shine your kitchen countertop has lost. Interestingly, you can do it on your own but, there are people who believe in bringing professionals for the same.

Apart from these care techniques, you will need to be extra careful about the sharp knives and forks use on your benchtop. Make sure you cut anything on the chopping board and not on the kitchen benchtop stone. Do not place any hot or cold pots, pans or plates on the counter table. It can leave a permanent mark which you will not be able to deal with. So if you notice any cracks or other such issues with the benchtop, you will need to take professional help to get the best results.

  • Natural stone is porous and permeable, and should be handled to avoid staining and etching with an appropriate sealant. Try to avoid direct contact with the stone benchtop by acidic, strongly colored or corrosive substances (e.g. beetroot, lemon juice, coffee, vinegar, food coloring, hair dye) as these can stain the surface if not cleaned up quickly.
