Adult coloring books are all the rage now. I’m totally content coloring in my daughter’s Strawberry Shortcake coloring book so never really found the need to get my own “adult” version. I remember during my senior year in high school, my Psychology teacher would have us bring in our own coloring books and crayons and have coloring sessions during class period to help us de-stress. It was great because I always loved to color and it really did work. It was funny to look around a classroom of high schoolers totally into their coloring and it would be so quiet in there! I eventually wondered if the teacher was really doing this for our benefit or for hers. Either way, I enjoyed it and no one ever complained.

I came across some geeky adult coloring books one day while scrolling through my newsfeed. I was like Whaaa?!Whaaaaaa?! Where have these been my whole life?! Yep, totally geeked out and the next thing I knew I was finding more and more of them. Lucky for you, I’ve compiled some here for you! I need them in my life but not sure if I’d ever have the heart to actually color in them. Could you?

  • Can you believe that I haven’t gotten into the adult coloring book craze yet? I don’t know what I’m waiting for but I need to join in and these are perfect. Especially that Harry Potter one.

  • Definitely some neat ones in there! I used to color in basic kids books, too, but have started with the grown up versions. I’m treating myself to a full set of Prismacolor colored pencils with part of my income tax return just for this.

    • Nice! Prismacolor pencils are great! My teen loves to draw and requested them a few years ago. She loves them.

  • I have the Steampunk Fashion and Johanna Basford books (she’s got three, I’m not as fond of her Under the Sea or whatever book). The Steampunk book is okay – it’s a little simplistic. I adore the Basford books, they’re very imaginative and fun and you can either be traditional with your colors or go wild. There’s plenty of variety between fine drawing and coloring in bigger areas too which I find is important – some days I want to work on tiny details, some days I don’t. If you do a lot of blending, there’s room for that too. I don’t really use pens so maybe someone who does would have a different opinion but these are my favorites. I’m almost done with all three and I’m weird enough that I might buy another set.

Basford has a daily calender coming out later this month. I’m not sure if they’re new or old designs but I’m looking forward to it. I’ll go be quiet now. lol

I love that they make these now! I used to buy kids coloring books that had a little more challenging pictures to color. It was embarrassing to pull out such a kiddish coloring book when the kids weren’t around. Now I can confidently sit at a Drs appointment and relax.

  • I have to admit when I first heard of Adult Coloring books, I thought of the human anatomy! I particularly don’t like coloring that much anymore, because of my hands. Sometimes I try to color with my grandkids to have fun with them.

  • I thought at first it would seem odd for grownups to be doing this. However, it is quite relaxing.
