Manic Monday - When Nerdlings Fell in Love with Star Wars

This past weekend is when the nerdlings finally fell in love with Star Wars! I know you are wondering why it took so long and that’s simply because I never took the time to actually sit down and watch the original trilogy. *gasp* yeah, I know. I’ve never actually sat through an entire movie from beginning to end myself but knew the storyline enough. I knew it was time to take that step and have a Star Wars marathon this past weekend with them.

I’m not even sure how it is possible that I married a guy who could not care any less than he does for Star Wars. He didn’t even sit through a whole movie with us and, when he did sit long enough, we had to keep pausing it to answer his gazillion questions. I swear he was worse than a toddler! I was totally shocked that our 10 year old ADHD-er sat through over 6 hours of movies. Apparently Star Wars grabbed his attention and didn’t let go.

We ended our marathon weekend by watching the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie. Friggin’ amazing movie but we ended up a little upset. If you have already watched it, you know why. If not, I won’t spoil it for you but WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Saturday – my dad and stepmom came to visit to give the kids their Christmas gifts. It was a great visit and the kids ended up with some really nice clothes, shoes, books, and more goodies.

Monday – Friday was the usual work/school routine except hubs was home Friday. The kids were able to get more caught up on their lessons and the soon-to-be 9 year old is getting much better at counting money. I even walked into her room to find her counting all of her own money by herself! Her math was sort of pushed to the side since she was having a really hard time with reading and focused more on that than anything else.

We lost Alan Rickman, among many other celebrities, this week. It was hard to wake up to that news and it put a damper on the day for me. Not only was he Professor Snape, he was an amazing actor and all around person from everything I have ever seen/heard. One of my favorite movies with him is a not-so-well-known one called Something the Lord Made. It isnt the usual movie I would sit down to watch but it caught my attention since it starred Alan and Mos Def together. You should definitely check it out if you haven’t already. Alan is greatly, greatly missed.

This Week –

Last week I shared with you my clutter. I am taking baby steps to get it cleared up and under control. It is a daily struggle but I am hoping that these little steps that I take become a habit that I won’t even have to think about. My first step is the kitchen, mainly the dishes. I have kept my sink empty all week thanks to running out of dishwasher detergent and hand washing the dishes as soon as they become dirty. I’ll share more of my journey with you in another post. I plan to add one extra step.

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Even though I wasn’t planning to take the day off from homeschooling, the hubs apparently told the kids they were off since public school is. So today I am doing some extra blog work to help make the rest of the week easier for me.
