Visual Learning Systems Review

Visual Learning Systems ReviewL9 and M8 worked on their lessons together and they really enjoyed the videos. A series of videos for one subject may look like there is a lot there and it actually did overwhelm my two kids when they first saw the list, but the videos are each just a few minutes long. The videos are broken up into Chapters so, for instance, we were able to get through the series of Measurement videos in less than 15 minutes.

You can choose to watch the entire series of a subject or break it up into smaller sessions. It is all up to you and your children! The Chapters are set up so each one is self-contained. Closed Captioning is available and could also be added in for an extra reading practice. The last Chapter video of each series is a Quiz video. This is so neat since it shows me and also the children how much they have learned while watching the videos. These quizzes usually contain about 5 questions for Elementary grades and 10 questions for the Middle and High School grades. I like that it helps to prepare them for the Post Test worksheet.

Each subject has it’s own set of worksheets and activities, including Pre Tests, Post Tests, Vocabulary Worksheets, Video Review, and several worksheets (some include Writing Assignments and hands-on activities!) that match the subject matter. There are also Teacher Guides that help you to introduce the videos to the children,  the learning objectives for each category, and even video scripts.

A neat tidbit that I learned was that Visual Learning Systems actually produced their own videos, images and worksheets all on their own! This, to me, shows just how passionate they are for children to learn science. We are a science loving family so this was an awesome opportunity for us and I plan to use this for the entire year as much as possible! I truly recommend this online program to anyone wanting to teach science to their children, or even for themselves!

Pricing is different for homeschoolers. You can find more info on that here.

  • Hi I am not clear if this is creation based or evolutionary based, christian or secular science. Would you be willing to clarify?

    • Hi April! I haven’t gone through everything in this program but I would say that it’s secular since it is marketed towards public school. I haven’t seen anything about evolution so far. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!

  • I’ve always wondered about the different homeschooling programs. I have a friend that homeschools her Littles just like you but I know she is using a different program. I think its great that you can split up the sections and complete what the child is ready for.

    • It’s great because you can pick and choose whatever you need for the kids and go at THEIR pace…not what we are told they SHOULD be at! I use many free programs but it is so awesome to be a part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew so I can have the opportunities to review these types of programs.

  • I especially like that there is special homeschooling pricing. Looks like a really good program, even if you’re just supplementing public education!

  • My kids aren’t the best when it comes to science so having something like this to help them will be a life saver. Will look into this for them. Thank you.
