Habit #1: Make Your Bed Every Morning

Making your bed is a quick task that instantly makes your bedroom look more put together. This small action can set a positive tone for the day. It gives you a sense of accomplishment right from the start. A tidy bed can make the entire room look cleaner. It seems more organized even if the rest of the space is not perfect.

Habit #2: Clean As You Cook

Cooking can easily turn into a messy task, but cleaning as you go can keep the chaos under control. Wash dishes, put away ingredients, and wipe down surfaces as you prepare your meals. By tidying up during the process, you’ll have less to clean once you’re finished, making the post-dinner routine a breeze.

Habit #3: Do a 10-Minute Evening Tidy-Up

Set a timer for 10 minutes every evening to do a quick tidy-up around the house. Focus on high-traffic areas like the living room and kitchen, picking up any clutter that’s accumulated throughout the day. This short burst of activity can help you start the next day with a cleaner, more organized space. Get the whole family involved to make it even quicker!

Habit #4: Wipe Down Surfaces Daily

Make it a daily practice to wipe down frequently used surfaces, like kitchen counters, bathroom sinks, and dining tables. This habit prevents the buildup of dirt and grime, making your weekly and deep cleaning sessions much easier. Keeping surfaces clean also helps keep a fresher-looking home overall.

Habit #5: Sort Mail and Paper Clutter Immediately

Do not let mail and paper clutter pile up on your counters. Deal with it as soon as it comes into the house. Sort through your mail daily, recycle what you don’t need, and file away important papers. Creating a designated spot for incoming mail can help keep your counters clear and organized.

These daily habits are the perfect companion to your existing cleaning routines. Incorporate these small tasks into your day. You’ll find that the tasks on your daily, weekly, and deep cleaning checklists are much easier to manage. If you haven’t already, be sure to download the checklists to stay organized and on track!

  3. I need to do this more often. I tend to build things up and then I have a bunch to clean and I get cranky.

Cleaning as I cook has made such a difference for me, and it’s something I’ve taught my kids as well. It’s so easy to pop ingredients back as you use them, but so overwhelming if it’s all left until the end!

Since my back surgery and because I head back to bed dozens of times during the day, I can’t get back in the habit of making my bed every day. My go to cleaning habit is to vacuum and sweep high traffic areas in my home. I do that several times a day.

  9. These are great suggestions! I do most of these but I have to admit that I don’t always clean while I cook. Sometimes I’ll leave the dishes for another time, but I always clean the counters!
