If you’re a fan of classic 90s-style hand-drawn animation, you’ll want to mark your calendars. A brand new film, LIGHT OF THE WORLD, is hitting theaters on September 5, 2025 – and it’s a movie the whole family can enjoy together.

Set in AD 30, LIGHT OF THE WORLD brings the story of Jesus to life in stunning 2D animation. While many were expectantly awaiting the Messiah, Jesus wasn’t exactly who they imagined – yet there was something extraordinary about Him. Told through the eyes of His beloved young friend, the Apostle John, this film follows Jesus’ ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection, powerfully showing how He changed the world forever and continues to change lives today.

Why This Movie Stands Out

There are so many reasons I’m excited for this release:

• LIGHT OF THE WORLD is the very first film from the Salvation Poem Project, a ministry dedicated to sharing Jesus with the world.
• The team behind it has serious talent – co-director John Schafer produced the beloved program Superbook, and co-director Tom Bancroft is a long-time Disney animator who worked on classics like The Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast.
• According to Movieguide, it’s “beautifully animated and entertaining … based entirely on the Bible” and stresses “faith, family, and trusting in God’s plan.”
• Best of all, it’s truly a family movie. Whether you’ve got little ones or teens, this is a story that can be enjoyed by all ages.
