Use Vertical Space

One of the best ways to make your home feel larger is to use vertical space. When most people think about space, they only consider the floors and walls. But there’s so much more room in your home than that! Start by looking up. Are there any shelves or cabinets that you can add to your walls? This will help you take advantage of all that empty space above eye level.

If you’re not sure how to add shelving or cabinets, there are plenty of resources available online and in stores. You can also hire a professional to help you with this project. Once you’ve added shelves or cabinets, be sure to use them wisely. Only store things that you regularly use, and don’t let them become cluttered.

In addition to looking up, also look down. If you have a basement or an attic, there’s probably a lot of unused space down there. These are great places to store seasonal items or anything else that you don’t need regularly. Just be sure to keep these spaces organized so that you can easily find what you’re looking for when you need it. Finally, think about the space between things. Can you add shelves or racks in empty corners? This is a great way to take advantage of otherwise wasted space.

Use Multipurpose Furniture for More Space

If you can’t bear to part with your bulky furniture, try using it for more than one purpose. For example, if you have a coffee table that takes up a lot of space, use it as a storage ottoman. You can store blankets, pillows, and other items inside of it. Or, if you have a dresser that you don’t use often, turn it into a TV stand.

Add On

If you’re really serious about adding more space to your home, you may want to consider an expansion. This can be anything from a sunroom to a second-story addition. If you have the land and the budget for it, an expansion is a great way to add value to your home and give yourself some extra space. An expansion is a big project, so be sure to do your research before you get started.

Talk to contractors, real estate agents, and other homeowners to get an idea of what’s involved. Then, once you’ve made the decision to move forward, start planning and designing your new space! But be clever in the process. Get a rubber tire dumpster rental when you begin. There is no need to ruin your driveway.

  • Yes, an expansion is a good idea in terms of boosting home value. But also remember that it implies additional expenses on cooling and heating bills.

    • Yes, additional space implies additional costs on energy bills. But if you decided to make an expansion not for living but for something like things storage, consider installing a duct HVAC system there. Since a duct system is an option that consists of several independent units located in each room where heating or cooling is necessary, it is an excellent solution for those who don’t often use every room in the house. Doing so allows you to reduce energy usage by only installing it in the areas where it’s most needed.

    • Quite true, but keeping your HVAC system well maintained is something that will help you save money. One of the most common problems to find is a dirty HVAC system. It’s vital to replace the air filter every few months or sooner. This will keep your system running smoothly and your heating bill reasonable because your HVAC doesn’t have to work as hard to keep the house warm.
If your filter or pipes are clogged within your HVAC then it’ll take more air and more energy to maintain a certain temperature within your home.
