Help Your Child Learn To Read with Reading Kingdom Online

We had the opportunity to review the amazing online reading program, Reading Kingdom Online by Reading Kingdom as part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew.
Help Your Child Learn To Read with Reading Kingdom Online

Our oldest child spoiled us when it came to learning how to read. She was 4 1/2 years old and as soon as she learned the sounds that each letter made, she was blending them like a pro on her own and reading chapter books by the age of 5. I never had to do sight words or any other kind of reading work with her. She was constantly reading and is the same way to this day. Her 2nd grade homeschool evaluation revealed that she was reading beyond a high school level but she just didn’t know what those large words actually meant. Then, a few years later, I discovered that teaching a child to read was not so easy with every child. Our second and third children proved us totally wrong. Thankfully, we have Reading Kingdom Online to help our third child get over her hump. I only wish I had it when our second child was struggling!

Reading Kingdom OnlineReading Kingdom Online is just as the name suggests, an online reading program for kids that teaches the six areas of reading: Phonics (Sounds), Sequencing, Writing, Meaning, Grammar, and Comprehension. It is aimed at children ages 4 – 10 to help them read and write to a third grade level. Since my youngest is 8 1/2 years old but still struggles with beginning reading, I knew this would be a great opportunity to start from the beginning. This way, she can get a bit of review while practicing at the same time. She has a very hard time retaining information and will read a word with no problem on one page then look at it like it is a foreign language on the next page. It is so frustrating, not only for me, but for her as well.

The awesome thing about Reading Kingdom Online is that it is customized to your child! At the beginning of the program, the child will take a Skills Survey and the parent is NOT supposed to help the child at all. This is so the program can correctly evaluate what the child knows and doesn’t know. This will then help it to customize what the child needs to work on and where to begin with the lessons. This is great so the child isn’t sitting through lessons that they already know.

After the Skills Survey, as the child moves along with the lessons, Reading Kingdom Online continues to customize to their reading needs according to the child’s previous interactions. Every child will have their own unique experience with Reading Kingdom!

Meg loves the fact that each lesson is bite-sized. She despises reading so to have her actually sit to do anything that has to do with it is tricky. After her first lesson, she realized that they are not long at all and it made her much more willing to sit down each day to use the program. We usually work on Reading Kingdom Online about 5 days a week. You can use it as a stand-alone curriculum or as a supplement. As of now, it is our ONLY reading curriculum for her because it works as well as keeps her engaged.

We are very happy with her progress in reading by using Reading Kingdom Online. We are continuing her lessons and hopefully this boost in reading confidence will lead her to a love of reading, just like her big sister!

You can check out some Sample Lessons and free resources and even start a 30 day free trial at Reading Kingdom! Take a look around and see if it is the perfect fit for your child!

  • I really like reading about this program. My middle daughter, Amberly is on the beginning level of reading. I bet this would really help her succeed.
