How to Get Mermaid-Style Hair with NuMe Styling Tools

Even though there are three ladies in this house, we are lacking in the hairstyle department. We are all happy wearing our hair up in a ponytail or just down. Beyond that, we are clueless. Since Halloween is coming up, I was able to get some products to help us achieve our desired looks thanks to NuMe. Achieving the Mermaid-style hair was so easy on our first try that I wouldn’t have any problems wearing this look daily!

To get the Mermaid-style hair, we used the NuMe Classic Wand Reverse and the NuMe Hair Chalk – Grape.

The Classic Wand Reverse is a curling wand but without the clip that you would open to hold your hair in while curling. This one is super easy to use and is so fast! Included is a black glove that you wear on the hand that is curling the hair around the wand. The wand only took a matter of a minute to warm up. Just simply grab some hair (small chunk of hair for smaller waves or a large chunk of hair for softer, larger waves) and wrap the hair around the wand. Hold for 2 – 5 seconds and then allow the hair to fall freely from the wand. For a full head of waves, place the base of the wand near the scalp with the tip facing downward and begin winding the hair around the wand, starting at the base. For curls towards the bottom of the hair, begin lower down the strand of hair using the same technique.

I used it on my 8 year old as a test run. She had just had her hair cut the day before and had layers put in it. I only used it on the outer layers of her hair and it turned out great for the first try. The glove keeps you from burning your fingers while wrapping the hair on the wand but you obviously do not want to hold onto the wand for a long period of time with it. Since you only need to hold the hair for up to 5 seconds, it was perfect. From the time I plugged in the wand and turned it on until I finished with the last curl, it was probably a matter of 5 minutes!

As you can see below, I ran a brush lightly through the waves after we were done to see what it would look like:

To get the gorgeous colors that you usually see in the Mermaid-style hair, we used the Grape colored Hair Chalk. It comes in a cute little container that is easy to hold while applying it to the hair. Our chalk didn’t come with instructions so I wasn’t exactly sure how to actually get it from the container to the hair. I held it against a long strand of her bangs with my thumb pressing the hair into the chalk and ran it down the length of the hair. The color came out very vividly and easy. It does make a mess with the chalk dust though so make sure you are using it somewhere that is easy to clean up. I just used a wet paper towel to wipe up the floor and it came right off with no problem. You will also get a mess on your hands but that will easily wash off with a little soap and water.

The Hair Chalk washes out of the hair easily with regular shampooing. I didn’t see it on my daughter’s clothes while wearing it but I did warn her to not lay on her pillow since I wasn’t sure if it would rub off. My 8 year old will be dressing as Rainbow Dash for Halloween this year so we will be able to give her some waves and color to her hair to match!

My teen even tried out the hair chalk on her bangs.

    • Thanks so much, Petro! This girl doesn’t like to even run a brush through her hair so for me to be able to achieve this hairstyle in a matter of minutes is awesome!

  • I have natural waves galore so I don’t ever use a wand or straightening iron on my hair. I think I might like to try some of that chalk–that might be fun!

  • I have plenty of natural wave but this would be great to kind of tame it and direct those waves where I want them.

  • And I officially need that tool. Those mermaid waves turned out so pretty!

  • I always loved being able to make my hair different colors but my hair is dark brown so a lot of color wasn’t visible. Wonder if this would work better!

  • This is absolutely something my daughter would love to do. She’s always asking me to dye her hair.
