Is Your Home Safe & Healthy For Homeschooling?

There are many considerations that you have to be aware of if you are trying to homeschool your children. But one that a lot of people tend to overlook is whether or not the home itself is actually safe and healthy to use as a homeschooling location. Of course, you will already be keen to keep your home safe and healthy, because you are already raising a family in it. But nonetheless, this is something you might want to revisit if you are starting to homeschool your kids there too. Here are some of the things to watch out for in that regard.

Safe Drinking Water

Water is vital in order for kids to be healthy, and so that they can think straight while they are working hard on their studies too. As such, it’s essential that your home has safe drinking water at all times. If you are unsure about the water you get through the taps, you should make sure to filter it before it is drunk. Of course, this is an essential thing that all homes should be able to have anyway, but again it’s worth checking if you are due to be homeschooling your children, just in case.

No Pests

Sometimes homes can develop problems with pests, and in fact, this can happen so easily that you will need to make sure that you are keeping constantly vigilant in the face of this particular problem. Keeping your home free of pests is important for the sake of everyone’s well-being, and so that your children are not distracted by rodents running around the classroom. Be sure to call out pest control if you are concerned that you might have a pest problem. The last thing you want is for such a problem to carry on unimpeded, only to get worse.

Lack Of Clutter

When you are running a classroom at home, you essentially have to think of it as a professional premise, which means that you need to ensure you are focused on keeping it safe in many of the same ways. And one of the most important of those ways is to keep the place as clear of clutter as you possibly can. If you can do this, you will find that people are much less likely to trip up while teaching or learning, and that makes for a much safer learning condition on the whole. Regular tidying is important here.

Temperature

Getting the temperature right is also surprisingly important here, and you will need to ensure that you are doing all you can to focus on this as best as possible. Temperature is vital for everyone’s good health, because if you are not able to regulate your temperature that will mean bad things for your body overall. So make sure that you are aware of this, and that you have both a decent heating system and reliable A/C. This is surprisingly important in any place of work or study, and your homeschool classroom is no different.

  • Speaking of the “home’s health”, I think air quality is also worth mentioning. The thing is pollution is not only an outdoor problem. The air quality in the house can be 10x times worse than outside, which is very bad for health and can cause ailments like severe headaches, fatigue, respiratory diseases, and even heart problems.
Most often the reason for this is the dirty filters of the air conditioner. We recommend replacing them once one to three months, depending on the filter type.
