Make Learning Fun with Time4Learning!

Make Learning Fun with Time4Learning!

We have been ‘officially’ homeschooling all three of the nerdlings for nine years now. Really, they have been homeschooled since they were born but you know what I mean. Each child has their own strengths and weaknesses, so when it came to boxed and cookie-cutter curriculum, it just never worked for us. This is why I am so happy to have been able to review the award-winning Time4Learning site. Time4Learning is an online homeschool curriculum, after school and summer learning program. Covering grades PreK all the way through 12th and the basic subjects, you are able to customize a learning environment that both you and the nerdlings will be happy about!

Each lesson is presenting with a video game feeling to introduce new materials and difficult concepts. Remember, even though it is not the “typical” learning environment, they are still learning! Mr Rogers even said it best when he said:

When your child ASKS to do school then you know you are on the right path! They stay safe in Time4Learning’s ad-free, secure site. Older children in high school can connect with other T4L students. My 14 year old had no interest in this so I have no opinion on it but I hope to change her mind about that.

Parents and Students have their own Dashboard to work from. To start out, parents go in and add each child. Then, you are able to set the start date and ending ending date that you plan to use the curriculum. I started ours on the first day that I received it until 1 year from that day. The system automatically schedules each subject out depending on the number of lessons within that grade level and the amount of days that you have set. No sitting there trying to figure it out yourself! You can also schedule in time off for vacations and breaks and the schedule will arrange itself. We have taken off the last 2 weeks for a small summer break. I simply went into each child’s schedule, selected Manage Breaks, and was able to set the week that we are taking off. I fixed up the whole year around holidays and our school schedule. I usually like to go one month on and then one week off. We are doing year round with more breaks throughout the summer. This is the reason that I set our school year to end 1 year from the start date.

Time4Learning Activity Log

Students start their lessons from their Dashboard. What we like to do is open the Activity Schedule in one tab while the lessons are opened in a separate tab. This way is easier for us so we don’t have to keep going back. It is categorized by subjects. Simply find the Activity Schedule for that day  and click each lesson scheduled for that day. Each lesson has a check box next to it so they can click it when finished to show that they are done. This is great to keep track of what they have already completed as well as keep a log for the parents of completed work and attendance.

I love how you can customize the levels of each subject for each child. For example, my oldest is 14 and uses the High School level. Even though technically she would be in 8th grade in public school, all of that work is way below her capabilities. She uses the 9th grade level for most of the work as well as the 10th grade English. She does complain that even that is below her so I am going to look into upping her level on that. Seriously, this child is amazing! We call her our old soul. She does, however, use the Middle School Math level because she struggles with that the most. Weird how the excelling readers always have a problem with math and vice versa!

Time4Learning Portfolio

Our trial has ended but I am continuing on ourselves because it just works so amazingly for us. I highly recommend Time4Learning to anyone looking for a fun, online curriculum. This is perfect for busy families such as us. Working from home and homeschooling can get very hectic so to have lessons already prepared and scheduled out has made it so much easier for us to get schooling in our days! I feel great knowing that I am not skimping out on their education now.

My oldest is wanting to work as much and as hard as she can to get through it to try to graduate early. She has her sight set on college! The High School level correlates with State Standards and keeps professional reports for the students. This is very important when applying for college because they require documentation to rank homeschool students alongside the public and private school students. Colleges are willing to accept homeschool transcripts as long as they are well prepared. Time4Learning makes it easy for parents to be able to do that!

If you are interested in learning more about Time4Learning, you can test-drive lessons for each grade level for free! Subscriptions are a low monthly price and offer a two week money back guarantee if you are not happy with it.

UPDATE (11/3/15): We are still using Time4Learning and loving it! We have made a few changes here and there such as grade levels for different subjects and also subjects all together. We switched the high schoolers science level down to Middle School level since she was getting frustrated with it to the point of skipping it. This is one of the things that we love so much – it is so customizable. T4L also updated their dashboards recently so it is much easier for students to navigate AND for the parents to set up lesson plans and schedules. We also decided to take out the math section for the high schooler since she is using another math program that she loves. Some people that I have come across that uses/used Time4 Learning say that they supplemented their own activities along with it because they felt like it wasn’t “long enough” of lessons. I say, if any kids are happy using this program and it works for everyone, then do whatever you feel is right for YOUR family!

Spread the love
