Manic Monday – Leap Day 2016

Manic Monday - Leap Day 2016

Last Monday was a weird day, actually the whole week was, and I ended up not posting a Manic Monday post. The thing is, when I just sat down to try to figure out what we did, nothing stuck out to me except for our trip to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Odditorium (blog post coming soon!) You know those days where you are exhausted from being on your feet all day but can’t name a single thing you did that day? Yeah, it was like that.

This past week had a little bit of excitement. We rearranged the bedrooms to make everyone happy. My bro-in-law came over Friday evening and spent the night then left Saturday afternoon. He lives less than an hour away but was here helping us out with some stuff and hanging out with the kids.

Friday and Saturday was a major test of keeping the kitchen, along with the rest of the house, clean. I tried not to stress so much and knew that by Sunday the house would be ‘reset’. My kids laugh at me when I say that but it’s really true. I hate starting a new week off with a mess and that is how the decluttering journey came to be. Truth be told, I have slacked majorly but the kitchen has been kept pretty dang clean.

Manic Monday - Leap Day 2016

Friday night was the first time I went to bed with some dishes in the sink from snacks and random cups and a cluttered counter. Because we were rearranging things around the house, the counter became the catch-all. I hated it but was so exhausted that I let it slip. First thing Saturday morning though I was washing dishes and putting things away from the counters as best I could. By Sunday afternoon, the house was back to normal as much as I could get it. I have my kitchen counters back at least!

Saturday evening is when a random sickness hit Kid Baker. She was fine all day until a little after 9 PM. She went to the kitchen and got herself a paper towel with an ice cube in it for her forehead. I asked her about it and she said she had a headache. This isn’t normal for her but it is normal for her to not make it known she isn’t feeling so well (she gets that from her dad). She asked to go to bed and then complained of a stomach ache. I already knew what was coming next. Of course all of our meds were expired. The kids are rarely sick anymore! Hubs left to get Tylenol, Motrin, and some kids Pepto pills. (A trick we learned in the ER when our teen would spike 105+ temps as a toddler out of nowhere is to alternate Tylenol & Motrin for fevers.) As soon as she chewed and swallowed the first pill, it all came right back up. Poor thing was sick for about an hour but never ran a fever. She fell asleep right after and slept all night, even waking up feeling great! She said that the night before felt like a nightmare. No one else got sick so I joked that she was over-excited about all the rearranging.

Yesterday, Sunday, my steam mop arrived that I ordered off of Amazon. I had never been more excited about cleaning in my life. The first thing I tackled with the steamer was the hallway bathroom shared by a picky cat and a tween boy – ’nuff said. It worked so great that I was looking around the house for things that I couldn’t use it on! It comes with so many attachments that I didn’t even begin to use them all. Funny thing is, I woke up this morning a little sore from all the steaming I did. HA!

  • Last week was just fine for me. Not too long from now we will be going on a vacation overseas so I’m starting to figure out what I need to take with me. Sounds like your week was good too just a little hectic.

  • This weekend was filled with my doing laundry so that I can pack for my trip in a few days. BTW my mom would agree with you about clutter. She hated it and while I don’t mind it, once it gets to be too much I usually just dump everything. 🙂

  • I have been working on decluttering the past week. Between spring cleaning and a move, I want to get the junk cleared out!

  • I am 100% with you on the reset Sunday. I like everything in it’s place before we start the week. I can’t imagine how this works when there are more little ones in the house, it’s hard enough to manage with just me and my husband!

    • It makes Mondays so much smoother. The way I look at it, our youngest is 9, so they are ALL old enough to pick up after themselves. Mama is not a maid lol

    • Yes!! That is the main reason I decided on this specific steam mop! I love it

  • I couldn’t agree more – a cluttered home does make a cluttered mind! I often feel like I can’t concentrate on getting a task done if the room I am in is cluttered / messy. Oh and that steam mop you got looks awesome – look at all those fun attachments! I want one too!
