Treating Moderate to Severe Acne

I have talked before about how I have dealt with acne since I was about 10 years old. Having very oily skin is a huge factor and sometimes leads to some major breakouts. As an adult, it is hard to find products that are not so much targeted for teens and young adults. My skin is almost 37 years old, yet, my face doesn’t realize it.

I have used some products and kits in the past that would either severely over-dry my skin, which then leads to more breakouts since my skin tries to compensate by making even more oil than usual OR a product will be too harsh on my skin since it is sensitive. I’m sure you can understand how after nearly 30 years of trying to find the “miracle cure” without breaking the bank I have pretty much given up on my skin.

I came across the opportunity to review Neutralyze Anti-Acne Solution recently. Neutralyze is a treatment for moderate to severe acne vulgaris. I actually scrolled past it at first because I thought, “Another acne kit that won’t work.” The next day I scrolled to it again and something told me to give it a try.

Neutralyze arrived in the mail and since it was early enough in the day, I decided to get started with it. It is an easy 3 Step process recommended to use 2 times a day (Morning and Evening) and is a 30 day supply.

Treating Moderate to Severe Acne with the Neutralyze 3 Step Process:

  • Face Wash – Non-irritating and gentle enough for sensitive skin. Does not contain exfoliating beads so it doesn’t cause irritation. Leaves skin feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and hydrated (NOT oily!)
  • Spot Treatment – A combination of Salicylic Acid (1%) and Mandelic Acid (1% – a naturally occurring AHA that comes from almonds.) Treats pimples, blackheads, and cysts while promoting healing by removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Unclogs pores and allows sebum (my enemy!) to escape freely.
  • Synergyzer – The final step that completes the system. Synergyzer works together with the Spot Treatment and the result is a visibly improved complexion and an overall improvement of health and condition of the skin. It helps to correct the pH balance of the skin which allows the skin to heal more immediately and effectively. Synergyzer contains natural ingredients which prevent over-drying.

You must make sure to wait at least 5 minutes between Steps 2 & 3 as well as after Step 3 if you plan to apply moisturizer, sunscreen, makeup, etc.

Before starting Neutralyze Anti-Acne Solution:

Just so you know, I absolutely HATE taking selfies, so this is  huge deal for me! (it actually doesn’t look so bad because it was healing from the last breakout)

Treating Moderate to Severe Acne

What I noticed after the very first treatment:

  • Did not irritate or over-dry my skin
  • My skin felt much less oily throughout the day AND night
  • Skin was very smooth
  • Smells great, not a medicine-y smell

My skin actually felt balanced and I wasn’t feeling like I had a pound of grease on my face. I also noticed that I wasn’t touching my skin as much which is a huge plus for me. I used to be a picker and have the scars to prove it from when I was younger. As I got older, I learned to not do it so much but would still catch myself in the act. With this skin treatment on my face, I don’t want to touch my skin as much so I don’t wipe it off.

The waiting at least 5 minutes in between Steps 2 & 3 kind of worried me at first. I am impatient and want to just get things done and over with so was afraid that I would give up too easily on this system. I eventually found a way around this – I find something to do really quick while doing my Morning and Evening routines to help speed things along! For example, in the morning I will wash my face first thing in the morning with Step 1, apply Step 2, make my coffee, throw my load of laundry in the washer, go finish Step 3, then use the bathroom (this is last so I don’t forget to go back in the bathroom AND makes the morning chores go faster!) I do basically the same for the Evening routine, this way I’m not waiting around and eventually skip Step 3.

Many people have reported dramatic results in as little as 2-3 days of using Neutralyze. I noticed a big difference in the feeling of my skin after one use but it really didn’t show how great it was working until a few days later..

Not to give too much information BUT my Aunt Flow decided to visit right after starting this kit (if ya know what I mean?) This tends to wreak havoc on my poor face and I can end up with boils and large, very painful pimples that want to last for at least 2 straight weeks. Basically, by time my skin starts to clear up, it’s time for another breakout. I am convinced that since I had already started Neutralyze a few days before and throughout this ordeal, my skin did not erupt as bad as it normally would! If that isn’t a true test then I don’t know what to tell you!

The thing is, it is normal for your skin to breakout soon after starting any new acne treatment. This is your skin detoxing and is normally a sign of the treatment working. If it doesn’t seem to be healing soon after, irritates your skin and is bothersome, then that is the sign that it is NOT for you.

After 1 Week of Neutralyze (and smack dab in the middle of the Aunt Flow visit):

After 1 Week of use

I am not going to lie and tell you that I did the treatment twice a day for 2 weeks straight. I’m human, and when I am not used to a system/routine then I can easily forget. I did miss about two evening treatments and seriously felt the difference the next morning. I usually wake up with an oil slick on my face but not when I apply Neutralyze the night before. It is still oily but I can’t even express how much better my skin feels in the mornings. I am still in awe of how great it works with my skin.

After 2 Weeks of Neutralyze Anti-Acne System:

Conclusion:

Although you may not be able to tell a big difference between the Before and 2 Weeks pictures but I can FEEL the difference. It gives my skin an overall better healthy feeling and I can notice some small changes in the looks. Neutralyze has helped my face feel softer, less oily, and my breakouts were not as big or last as long! I am really excited to see just how great my skin will be after a full month of use. I also learned that apparently black is my favorite color to wear.

I am still using Neutralyze and, since the price is very decent and it works great for my skin, I am planning to continue using it. The 3-Step kit is available for purchase, as well as just the Face Wash, and the Spot Treatment & Synergyzer together (since they are to be used together) on Amazon.com.

There was a mishap with the shipping that was NOT Neutralyzes fault at all and involved another separate company’s product shipped along with it. Neutralyze went above and beyond customer service to help correct it when they didn’t have to do anything. I was genuinely impressed and that shows that their 100% Satisfaction Guarantee really means something to them.

Daily Deals from a Nerd Mom readers can enjoy a nice discount on the Neutralize Anti-Acne System by using the code NERDMOM2 at checkout – final price is just $15! (Expires 4/15/2016 11:59 PM PST)

  • I’m definitely going to have to check this out. I’ve tried every acne type of kit out there, along with completely natural products, and DIY stuff. My skin sounds very similar to yours – a pound of grease just sitting on the face. I can tell the difference between the before and after picture. But what makes me really glad to hear is that you can /feel/ the difference – sometimes I think that’s more than others being able to see the difference.

    • I totally agree with you there, Ashley!

I actually did a test and skipped an evening and the next morning, only using water to wash my face. It felt so gross all day yesterday and I couldn’t wait to wash it with the system again before bed! I woke up in the middle of the night & instantly reached up to wipe the grease from my nose but there was next to nothing!

Even after 2 weeks of use, I’m still really amazed by how well this product works on my skin cutting the oil without drying it out while combating/preventing acne. I could rave all day about it LOL

  • Your face is just like mine. I’m almost 40 but my face still thinks I’m 14. I have breakouts and I’m not sure why but I’ve been using Neutrogena Naturals and it’s been working for me so far. I’d love to try this one too though.

    • I’m so glad that you were able to find something that is working for you! I’m sure I’ve tried Neutrogena everything when I was younger but the Naturals is new to me.

  • First of all, yay for wearing black. I wear black all the time and in a totally not goth chick sort of way 🙂

Your skin looks great – I can definitely tell a big difference between the before shot and the after two week pic. Your skin looks healthier and more youthful. Thank you for sharing the before and after pictures with us, I know that plastering picture of your face – without make up – on the internet isn’t the easiest thing to do 🙂

I have dry and dull skin, but I am lucky in that I don’t get pimples too often – but when I do get one it is usually a big white head on my nose or near my lip. This is most likely because those are the areas I am always touching. It is so difficult to keep my hands off my face…

    • Thanks so much my fellow non-goth, black wearing chick! 😀

I do notice that my breakouts are usually in the areas that I touch the most and also the side of my face that I lay on the pillow the most. I have a habit of propping my chin on my hand and having my fingers rest above my lips. I end up with acne in those same spots but I don’t seem to realize I am doing it until too late.

The great thing about this Neutralyze system is that it hydrates the skin while balancing the pH levels. This is huge for me since I have oily skin.

  • I may have to check this out. I am a few years older than you and despite my skin being bone dry everywhere else, my face is an oil slick. I always joke that I will turn 90 years old and have no wrinkles but still need acne cream Ugh!

Thanks for sharing your experience and including your before and after photos. I’m with you – I’m not a big fan of selfies either. I can definitely see a difference and I’m so glad you found something that works for you. I’ve also had very oily skin my entire life. I don’t get breakouts very often any more since I started taking skincare more seriously after I turned 40. A product that made the biggest difference for me is Paula’s Choice leave-on BHA treatments. She has several different kinds and I like the one in the Resist line.

    • Lynne, thank you for sharing what works for you. I haven’t heard of that brand but will look it up. Thanks!

  • So many acne treatments are too harsh for acneic skin and often make it worse. I realized i already commented on this post but felt I had more to add. I’ve started looking for other BHA (often salicylic acid) treatments because Paula’s Choice has raised their prices. I’m also looking into getting a micro needling derma roller. Used with a treatment serum, like Vitamin C, it is supposed to have amazing results.

    • Hi, Lynne! Did you ever get the micro needling derma roller? I’ve always been curious about it but with sensitive skin, I’ve stayed away.
