A group of scientists from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore discovered that participants who consumed coffee were better at identifying pictures that were similar, compared to their counterparts who didn’t take caffeine. Based on these findings, they concluded that caffeine improves long-term memory by blocking a molecule called adenosine. That way, it prevents this molecule from stopping the function of norepinephrine, a hormone with positive effects on memory.
