Easiest Way to Shuck Corn
We love corn on the cob. As much as we love it though, we rarely make it ourselves. When I do, it’s the kind that is already shucked and cut into smaller portions. Yeah, I’m lazy like that. Now, I don’t worry because I’ve found the easiest way to shuck corn.
The other day, the hubs decided to buy corn on the cob to go with our grilled burgers. When I opened the bag, it was the kind that needed to be shucked. I have never in my life done that before so had no clue how.
Thanks to the trusty Google, I have found the best, fastest, easiest way to do it yourself! It involves something you may not have thought of – the microwave.
According to Ken, he shows us how to shuck corn like a boss. You can watch him doing it in this video. I tried it out…and it works, y’all! Even the 11 and 9-year-old were helping me. Just make sure to wear oven gloves while doing it because they get super hot.
Easiest Way to Shuck Corn
- Put an ear of corn in the microwave for 4 minutes. (We did 2 ears at a time for 8 minutes.)
- Using gloves, take the ears out of the microwave and cut the husk off the end without the silk.
- Grab the silk end of the ear and shake out the ear of corn.
They come out clean without any silky strings on them. This method saves so much time and is pretty fun to do. Even the kids took turns at it.
Have you tried this method before? Have any other neat hacks for shucking corn?
I need to try this method. I still send my hubby out to the compost pile to shuck my corn!
When I had seen that I needed to do it myself, I literally stood there with a blank look because I had no idea how to even start LOL
I haven’t tried that yet, but I’m going to do it. Those silks are beyond annoying! This sounds like a great hack.
They are seriously annoying! Besides the microwave time, it is really super easy & fast.
I tried it and it cooked the corn only left them in for 5 mins
Thanks for sharing this! Shucking corn was always my least favourite chore as a kid. I love eating it, but I hated preparing it!

You are very welcome!
I watch my Mom and others shucking the corn before they leave the store–me I buy it in cans or frozen–lazy? Yes.
This sounds like a nice easy way. A real time saver.
Truthfully I have never shucked corn. We are not huge corn eaters. But seems like a fun thing to do!
I am definitely saving this post to try when I get some corn. One question I have is does the 4 minutes in the microwave not cook the corn?
I can certainly say that I have never tried this way before and will have to. I usually just buy them already done but if I need to do them myself, this is the way that I’m going to be doing it. Thank you!
We are definitely going to try this. It always takes us so long to shuck corn and getting that extra hair off it is a pain!
I have never heard of this before!! I need to try this that’s my favorite summer time veggie, we grill it all the time!
This is really amazing! I’m sure this is really great for summer!
To be honest I have NEVER shucked corn before – I always thought it would be difficult so I have avoided it. Now I know that I can handle this 🙂 Thanks for the tip!
Never too old to learn something new!! That’s an awesome good to know how item!! I just recently learned how to easily take off the Shell on a Hard Boiled egg~ That’s 2 new ones I learned at 70~ lol ` Thankyou for sharing this with us!!
You are very welcome, Cathy. I’d love to hear the egg trick!
What a great idea. I love fresh corn on the cob.
We typically steam our corn – after its shucked…and it tastes amazing. Wonder if doing this will change the flavor of the corn….
Amy, this was my one and only time ever shucking corn. It doesn’t actually cook the corn enough though so I use my boiling method afterward. THAT makes the corn taste amazing!
